End 31.1.96
Contents Creation of a centre of excellence (MANTRA) for the concrete application of neural solutions on industrial problems. Hardware and software implementation of neural networks and evaluation of performance capabilities in industrial use. A first application is aimed at statistical safety analysis in electric networks, a second application is directed towards the implementation of a neural machine capable of automatic real-time production of weather reports which today have to be drafted by experts.

Neuroinformatics solutions could be of great interest to industry. Neural algorithms are characterized by an inherent parallelism and their ability to learn from a model, but relatively little research has been done in this field as yet. Existing applications require very powerful IT resources in terms of both hardware and software; new architectural concepts need to be developed to satisfy the high requirements.
